Surface magazine’s March/April issue, on newsstands next week, features pieces I wrote on the newly renovated, century-old Weltspiegel Cottbus theater in Germany, redesigned by interior architect Alexander Fehre; “A Confederacy of Heretics,” an exhibition at SCI-Arc of early work by Thom Mayne, Frank Gehry, Eric Owen Moss, and other accomplished L.A. architects; an upcoming furniture collection for Knoll by the Rem Koolhaas–founded firm OMA; and the headquarters of the Confederation of Employers of Albacete, designed by the Alicante-based firm Cor & Partners. Along with that, I covered the Norwegian industrial-design studio Anderssen & Voll and the recently refreshed, David Chipperfield–designed Café Royal hotel in London. Also inside are pieces I wrote on the Basel-based architecture firm HHF and the L.A.-based studio Patterns, plus interviews with the Chinese architect Yang Zhou and the Israeli-born artist Chava Rosenzweig. I also interviewed Brioni creative director Brendan Mullane.
